About Vailsburg Rescue Squad

Independent. Community-Funded. Volunteer-Driven

The Safety First Vailsburg Rescue Squad operates as a fully independent emergency medical service, sustained entirely by the generous support of our community. We receive no federal or municipal funding, and every aspect of our operation—from equipment and vehicles to facilities—is made possible through donations and fundraising efforts.

At the heart of our mission is the unwavering dedication of our volunteer team members, whose time, skill, and compassion form the backbone of this organization. Their commitment ensures that when emergencies arise, Vailsburg Rescue is ready to respond.

Mission

Our mission is to deliver professional, responsive, and patient-first emergency medical care—every time, without exception.

We are proudly committed to being a community-based EMS organization, built on compassion, integrity, and service. Our volunteers stand ready to serve our neighbors with skill, urgency, and heart when they need us most.

Vision

Community-Founded, Regionally Trusted

The Safety First Vailsburg Rescue Squad was founded by a dedicated group of local residents and business owners who shared a mission: to reduce EMS response times and deliver high-quality pre-hospital emergency care. Established as an all-volunteer organization, we remain deeply rooted in the community we serve.

Our squad operates two fully equipped first response vehicles, primarily serving the West Ward of Newark, including the Vailsburg and Ivy Hill neighborhoods. Through regional mutual aid agreements, we also respond to emergencies across all Newark wards and throughout Essex County.

Each vehicle meets the rigorous standards of the New Jersey Department of Health, and the squad is officially registered with the State of New Jersey (EMS Provider ID #0751209)—ensuring compliance, readiness, and professional care at every call.
